There are basically three categories of court proceedings: criminal, civil, and administrative. When a prosecuting attorney files criminal charges against somebody, this is known as a criminal case or criminal proceedings. In an initial criminal court hearing, the prosecuting attorney presents their case against the individual, and a copy of all the charges is provided to the person for their own inspection. A judge will preside over the case and will decide if the individual should be held in jail without bail, or if they should be released.

In a civil case, an individual is accused of a crime by another person or the government. The defendant has a constitutional right to a private trial by an impartial jury. The government does not have a right to present its case before a jury. In a criminal case, the prosecution has a right to a fair trial by a competent and unbiased jury.

In some instances, the government and its representatives may negotiate with the individual to try a plea bargain. A plea bargain involves a reduction in charges, if the prosecuting attorney can present a deal that the defendant will not go to jail but will plead guilty to a lesser offense. The accused can also offer a cooperation agreement, in which case, the prosecution would recommend a sentence of probation, counseling, community service, fines, or restitution to a victim. The defense may also present a plea bargain to reduce the charges or to avoid the criminal record. Again, the defendant will have a constitutional right to accept or reject the deal.

Appellate cases handle criminal cases that end with a judgment. In an appeal, the claim being raised is usually about the constitutionality of a law or rule. Many of the issues decided at appeal are on points of law that are intended to affect societal patterns of behavior. Appellate court cases often end in the same outcome as a criminal case; however, the lower crime rates in many parts of the country and more complex cases tend to lead to more complex outcomes.

Grimsborough, PA is the home of Harkins Simplot, a newlywed. Shortly after their marriage, they drive down to a secluded beach and discover a body washed ashore. The couple identifies the body as that of their neighbor, Josephine, who disappeared while jogging on their own back yard. Their neighbor’s son, Michael, becomes the prime suspect in their mother’s death. Harkins and Simplot enlist the aid of Detectives John Price and Frank Burns, who join them on their search for the real killer.

A French-Only Release. “The Fall” picks up after the events of the first few chapters of “The Spy.” The majority of the book is set in the small town of Grimsborough, PA, a place with charming white, middle-class citizens. Price is a detective whose services are hired by Simplot to investigate the murder of another resident, Kate. Kate’s body is found near the beach in an apparent drowning accident, with no sign of a struggle.

Once Kate’s body is identified, the investigation leads the investigators to a man with a mysterious past. John Price, Kate’s husband, suddenly starts acting strangely, asking them not to contact him and demanding that they leave. Kate and John’s teenage son, Jacob, had become desperate to find out what has happened to their mom and dad, so they turn to an online dating service. They learn that John is actually an FBI agent, on the run from an unscrupulous organization that threatened to reveal his past if they didn’t help him catch the criminal organization’s boss…

Following the events of the first part of the novel, Price and his associate, ex-cop detective, ADAmia Harlow, track Price’s target, the villainous Mark Whitlock, to New York City. However, Price becomes stranded in Times Square after his car breaks down. In order to save his life, he must find out why the criminal case he was assigned was reassigned, and how the case was closed without any charges ever being filed against the previous suspect. As in the first part of the novel, Price must use all of his resources to find out what happened to the previous case, while trying to clear his name and stop the killer from hurting anyone else.
